Every spring for the last 12 years, Melissa and I have attended the National Retail Hobby Store Association Table Top Expo in Las Vegas otherwise known as the NRHSA show. The NRHSA show is well know in the hobby industry as being a very intimate, hands on show that is focused on building relationships and networking rather than being a huge show with big fancy booths to show off product. Attending this show every year has contributed to our success over the years. We have built strong relationships with our suppliers like Traxxas, Horizon Hobby, and Great Planes. This helps us be able to get any issues that our customers have resolved quickly because we are more than just a voice over the phone. When we want to do special events like our Pro Boat boat demo day that we did a few weeks ago, it's easier to get our suppliers involved because they know us. We are also able to provide feedback about what our customers like or don't like about their products. Strong relationships with our suppliers is a win- win for our customers! We have also gained many great friends that own hobby shops all around the country. This also helps us serve you the best we can by hearing how they operate their stores. It keeps us motivated and gives us fresh new ideas about how to do things at the shop!
The NRHSA show is also all about FUN! There are lots of hands on demos so we can try out new products. A good example of this is the new Traxxas X-Maxx. Yes, the X-maxx has been out since December but we sell them so fast, none of us at the shop have been able to take one out and test drive it yet. I was able to do so at the car demo at the show. It was awesome by the way!!! We also found a really cool new RC boat manufacturer. I saw them run their boats at the boat demo. They have a RTR boat that goes 73 mph that is super impressive! If I wouldn't have seen that in person, I'm not sure I would have believed the speed and quality of their boats. Seeing something in person is totally different than just seeing it in a catalog or a video on youtube.
Why we attend the NRHSA show reminds me a lot of why our customers choose to shop with us. Building strong relationships and friendships with the people you do business with, seeing and touching stuff before buying it, and knowing that if you ever have a problem, you have someone face to face who knows your name that can help you resolve it. Funny how it's so similar. :) It's a tough job but we are so glad to do it!
